ABOUT THE SPACE

In 2016, the Den was approached by Haven Theatre about expanding again and creating a new performance space that would serve as their resident home. After securing the building next door, to the west, we built The Bookspan Theatre.

Named by the folks at Haven Theatre to honor the memory of Janet Bookspan, a respected arts educator, performance coach, director and performer, this 99-seat, fully adaptable space sits at ground level and has its own storefront facing the street. When not in use by Haven, the space is available for other theatre companies to rent. In addition, the space is equipped with its own modular stage and set that can be moved in to accommodate stand-up comedy acts and live musical performances.

The Bookspan features exposed brick walls, our signature red armchairs, an excellent sound & light package, self-controlled HVAC system, portable Wenger risers, and a 13.5 foot high ceiling. Upstairs, above the theatre, is a fully equipped dressing-room, with a bathroom and lounge area. As with any of our spaces, producing companies and audiences alike will benefit from our professional front-of-house services. Also, when being used for stand-up or live music, the floor is set up with tables and chairs, and in-house cocktail service is available from our own Haven Lounge!
